"Same Forest Different Monkeys"
Lessons from the field, the boardroom, and the barstool. Sales, strategy, and life without the fluff.
"Same Forest. Different Monkeys."
Rugby. Sales. Business. Life. Politics. Relationships.
Three days ago, Kenya lost to Zimbabwe in rugby. Again.
But this isn’t just about rugby—it’s about how we sell, lead, love… and keep failing familiar.
🏉 Rugby?
We’ve played Zimbabwe for more than 40 years—we know their game cold:
• Structured rugby
• Great at the ruck
• Clever fly-half (10) calling the shots
• Quick hands in midfield
• Fast wingers who finish the job
We’ve beaten them before—when we respected the basics.
But Kenya? We serve maandamano rugby:
• Gwara gwara running lines
• Wan’tam lineouts
• No structure—just pure instinct, chaos, and hope
When it works, it’s beautiful.
When it doesn’t, we blame the ref, the weather, or the economy—and hope for another Collins Injera moment.
💼 Sales & Business?
Same pattern.
We lose deals the same way every quarter.
Leads get cold. Follow-ups vanish.
We copy-paste last year’s failed strategy, pray for different results,
and tell the board/boss we grew YOY by 30%.
We throw talent at problems but ignore process—then wonder why burnout happens.
❤️ Life (Yes, Relationships Too)
We all have a type, don’t we?
• Rangi ya thao – Light-skin Kambodian. (Wear your shades)
• Dark chocolate – Nubian king/queen, mjaka type
• Chubby – Built for comfort, not speed. (Rolls Royce vs Lamborghini)
But how many times do we chase the same walking red flag in new packaging?
We say, “This one is different.”
Three months later, it’s the same heartbreak—different Instagram handle.
🏛 Politics?
Same forest. Different monkeys.
This government thought the 1990 protestors were too old to fight back.
They forgot: protest is Kenya’s muscle memory.
Now Gen Z has entered the chat:
• No leaders
• No tribes
• Just hashtags, memes, M-Pesa tills—and WANTAM!!
🎯 The Hard Truth
If you don’t study history, life keeps handing you the same test—only harder and more expensive.
Same forest. Different monkeys.
Same mistakes. Different year.
🗣 Final Word
Fail forward? Absolutely.
Take risks. Go bold.
But stop failing familiar.
The universe has enough drama—you don’t need to direct your own sequel.
