Same Forest. Different Monkeys.

Every week, the forest gives us something to talk about.

A boardroom appointment. A family argument. A rugby result. A power blackout. A business that went back to the drawing board. Sometimes the most useful management lesson is hiding in a story nobody thought belonged in a management book.

Same Forest. Different Monkeys. looks at business, sport, sales, family and ordinary African life—and the strange ways in which they keep explaining one another.

The stories are written from Kenya, but the forest is much larger.

Who is behind it?

I’m Kenneth Thimba—KT to most people and occasionally Rafiki Jackson when the forest demands less boardroom and more truth.

I have spent more than 25 years building and leading sales, distribution and commercial teams across East Africa. I have worked in healthcare, insurance, emergency medical services, technology and other sectors where the PowerPoint eventually has to meet the customer.
My board experience includes two government appointments, alongside service in alumni associations, sporting bodies and member-led investment groups (chamas).

I am also a former Kenya national rugby player & coach, a father of three and a lifelong student of people: how they compete, cooperate, sell, lead, recover and occasionally make a complete meal of a perfectly sensible plan.

What will you find here?

Some editions begin in a stadium and end in a boardroom. Others begin with school holidays, internet humour, or something said at the bar counter. The subjects change, but the interest remains the same: people, decisions, and what happens when the first plan meets real life.

This is not a lecture or a management textbook. It is closer to a conversation among friends—one with facts, humour, memory and, when the occasion requires it, a monkey misbehaving in full public view.

Why subscribe?

Subscribers receive every new edition directly by email and have access to the publication archive.

If a story makes you laugh, think, remember somebody or forward it to a WhatsApp group with the words, “This is exactly what I was telling you,” then it has probably done its work.

Subscription is free.

A note on how the work is produced

I use digital tools, including AI, to assist with research, transcription, fact-checking, structure, drafting and editing. I accept responsibility for everything published under my name.

The judgment, experiences, opinions and final editorial decisions are mine.

Welcome to the forest, where the monkeys may be different but the behaviour is often surprisingly familiar.

Mubarikiwe. Jah Bless.
